Hi, I’m Kate White, one of those millennials trying to retain sanity in the thick of balancing work and life as a working parent. This is the 6th and final edition of The New Box, a writeup meant to spark ideas surrounding the concept of a better work-life “normal” specifically for parents and progressive employers.
“With this here newsletter I’m raising my hand as a Millennial with a few ideas from the parenting / entrepreneurial / tech / design-minded corner on what the future of work should entail.
Our collective next steps will require deep consideration of the past, serious compassion for our present, and creativity like we haven’t yet seen in the corporate environment…”
That was me, last April.
April 24, 2020 in fact, roughly a month after the world as we knew it had begun to shut down. I was working full-time as a Director of Brand at the time (remotely, much to the chagrin of my employer 😏 Heh.)
My entrepreneurial endeavors to change the maternal back-to-work patterns in corporate America went on indefinite pause, and simultaneously everyone from C-levels to entry levels were awakened to the fact that butts-in-seats, 8-5 workplace policies were antiquated and also completely adverse to the personal lives of caregivers.
I started The New Box to pen my $.02 on what the glorious post-COVID world could be like.
I thought a Millennial parent perspective could be valuable in the ether of voices.
But since last April I actually found something stronger than a pen…
I found building blocks.
In July 2020, I quit my job and started a business to support parents and employers in this new world of work. I joined forces with like-minded founders and created a collective of voices all speaking, looking, building to the same future.
We are building a future of integration in which the curtain of work/life separation is pulled back.
We are excited about a future in which we all get real real up in here about creating equitable workplaces that support employees as humans and not just resources (puke much!)
As such, this will be my final write-up of The New Box. As I build TheirSpace I will be penning longish-form thoughts on LinkedIn - I’d love for you to join me there!
I will also be sending emails from TheirSpace, which you will receive by default. (If this content is not your cup of tea any longer, feel free to unsubscribe!)
I hope you have found building blocks of your own over the crazy past year, friends. I look forward to connecting with you on the platform of your choice again soon. ❤️
With gratitude,
Kate
